Saving Money – Grocery Shopping

Like many families, we’ve really felt the impact of rising grocery costs. As a family, our grocery spending can get high, so we’ve adopted a few strategies to help reduce expenses without sacrificing quality.

Below are the stores and services we use most often, and how we make them work for us:

Primary Store: Aldi

Aldi is where we purchase the majority of our grocery items. Some products are great, while others can be hit or miss, but overall the savings add up quickly. Aldi has changed a lot from how I remember it growing up visiting a local store with my grandpa — many stores are now modernized, clean, and well-organized.

Things to know:

  • You’ll need a quarter for a shopping cart (you get it back when you return it).
  • You’ll bag your own groceries (We bring our own reusable bags).
  • Store-brand products often offer strong value compared to name brands.

Secondary Stores: Walmart & Amazon

For items we cannot find at Aldi, we usually turn to Walmart or Amazon.

  • Walmart: Often competitive on prices and carries many brands Aldi does not.
  • Amazon: I’ve been an Amazon Prime member for many years and use Subscribe & Save to regularly order items like diapers, paper towels, and pantry staples. This helps with convenience and can offer additional discounts.

Occasional Store: Publix

We shop at Publix only for specific or specialty items. It’s not part of our regular grocery rotation, but it’s helpful when we need something unique or hard to find elsewhere.
